The Cycle of Life

Mom has been doing so well since Christmas, even eating better and maintaining her weight.  But for the past few days she has been quiet and rather withdrawn.

Mom's Pastor died a couple of weeks ago.  Not only had he been her Pastor for over 35 years, the Lord had given Mom a special friendship with his wife and they have remained friends even after the Pastor retired and the 2 moved out of the area.

Then this week, my sister-in-law's father passed away.  This, too, was someone that Mom had known for a long time.  And another sister-in-law's brother died this week; he was 73.

I feel Mom's apparent depression has been brought on by the deaths of these men.  Perhaps it is because not only were they people Mom had known for a long time, they were also her contemporaries.  The death of someone in your relative age group has a way of reminding you of your own age and health situation.

The Bible in Psalms 90:12 says, "So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom."   We don't think much about how many days we have when we are young and all of life stretches out before us.  But as we get older and the number of our days get fewer and the things that were "life and death" when we were young just don't mean as much as we get older.

But there is one thing that is "life and death" and regardless of whether we are young, middle age, or old, it is something that needs to be dealt with personally.  We all know that in the cycle of life, dying is inevitable.  When or where or how is not in our choosing.  But where we spend eternity IS our choice.  When it is all over and we each stand before the Most High God, the only thing that matters will be, "What did you do with Jesus?"  If one has accepted Him as their Savior, Heaven will be their eternal home.  But if not, eternal separation from God and eternity in Hell will be their place.

Caregiver, today will pass, but each passing day does bring us closer to eternity.  The way of salvation has been made for us thru Jesus - He did the hard part!  Accepting Jesus and living for Him is a far better way of life!  To the right, I have posted a page,"TELL ME ABOUT ETERNAL LIFE".  There you will find some Bible verses that will show you how you can know for sure if you died today you will go to Heaven.

My prayer for you is that you will accept Jesus as your Savior and we will be rejoice together in Heaven!
